Fit
A soft guide for knowing your shape — because this garment is meant to fit you, exactly as you are.
Overbust — Measure around your chest above your bust, across the upper chest and under your arms. This is where a strapless neckline would sit. Keep the tape flat but not squeezing.
Bust — Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape comfortably snug but not tight. Make sure the tape stays level all the way around your back.
Underbust — Measure directly under your bust, where the bust meets the ribcage. This is an important shape point for both overbust and underbust corsets.
Waist — Find your natural waist, usually the softest part where your body creases when you bend side to side. It’s often just above your belly button. Breathe naturally and measure snugly but gently — this is the anchor point of your corset.
High Hip — Measure around the top of your hip bones. This is the upper part where your torso starts to transition to the hip.
Full Hip — Measure around the fullest part of your bottom, usually 18–23 cm below your natural waist (this varies by height and body shape). This helps me understand how your corset should balance over your frame, even if it doesn’t extend this far.
Front Waist Length — Measure from the base of your neck, right between your collarbones, down the center of your torso to your natural waist, following the curve of your torso. This tells me how long the corset should be in front without cutting in or gaping.
Front Torso Curve — Measure vertically from the point between your breasts straight down to your natural waist. This is especially helpful for shaping the front of the corset around your bust curve.
Side Torso Length — Standing naturally, measure from just under your armpit (the crease at the side of your arm) down to your natural waist on the side of your body. This helps determine the corset’s side height — enough for coverage and comfort without pinching.
Back Waist Length — Measure from the prominent bone at the base of your neck in the back (the one that sticks out when you tilt your head forward) down the center of your back to your natural waist. This helps with how the corset hugs your back without riding up or down.
Waist to Hip — From your natural waist, measure straight down to your high hip (if the corset ends at the upper hip) or to your full hip (if the design goes lower). This vertical measurement ensures the corset accommodates the slope of your body.
Tips for Measuring
-
It helps to wear thin, snug clothing or just your undergarments.
-
Stand naturally, don’t suck in — this garment is meant to meet you exactly where you are.
-
If possible, ask a friend to help, especially for vertical measurements like neck-to-waist.
-
Use a soft measuring tape, and keep it level and snug but not digging in.
Not sure if you’re measuring it right?
No worries at all. If you like, you’re very welcome to send me photos of how you’re holding the tape or where you’re measuring. I’m happy to take a look and make sure everything lines up just right before I begin drafting your corset.
This process is collaborative, and I’m here to guide you every step of the way.
