The Unwritten

A skin recorded for the first time.

 

Some commissions begin with an existing form. Others begin with an idea that has not yet found its shape.

The Unwritten is the fully custom side of Fae Skin: a collaborative process between the Archivist and the piece's future custodian. Silhouette, materials, construction and details are developed specifically for the person who will inhabit the final piece.

The making process is part of the record. Sketches, decisions and alterations become part of the piece's history.

When the finished skin is complete, its record begins.

THE UNWRITTEN PROCESS

THE INITIAL RECORD

Every Unwritten begins with a request.

Tell me what you are looking for: a silhouette, a particular textile, an existing garment, a reference, a practical requirement, or simply an idea that has not yet found its form.

I review the request and determine what can be developed within the atelier.

DEVELOPMENT

The piece takes shape through correspondence and design.

We establish silhouette, proportions, materials, construction and detailing. Sketches, references and fabric options may become part of this stage.

CONSTRUCTION

Once the design is established, making begins.

The corset is constructed to your measurements, with fittings or adjustments discussed as necessary throughout the process.

THE RECORD CONTINUES

When the finished piece leaves the studio, its record is complete enough to accompany it.

Its materials, construction, measurements, alterations and relevant history are retained as part of the Fae Skin records.

From there, its history belongs to its custodian.

COMMISSION A SKIN

Unwritten commissions are individually assessed and begin at €650. Because each piece is developed from the beginning, pricing depends on the materials, construction and level of development required.
